The Columbus Dispatch reports that Perry was drawn to Finland Middle School on Friday after seeing a TV report about teacher Mary Mulvany starting a foundation to raise scholarship money to cover fees.
The school gained national attention when athletics and extra curriculum activities were eliminated in 2009. Voters helped bring back the cut activities, but at a cost.
Perry wants to sponsor as many children as possible. The donation will go directly to the school and some to the Mulvany’s Foundation.
