Paula Deen Fired By Food Network Over Racial Slurs
Lisa Jackson, former general manager of Deen’s restaurant in Georgia, filed a $1.2 million lawsuit back in March claiming Deen frequently used racial slurs. Jackson also claimed that Deen’s brother, Bubba Hier, subjected her to sexual harassment.
Jackson recalls a situations from 2007 in which Deen said the following when discussing waitstaff attire regarding a wedding she was planning:
“Well what I would really like is a bunch of little [bleeps] to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties. You know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around. Now, that would be a true Southern wedding wouldn’t it? But we can’t do that because the media would be on me about that.”
Paula Deen has admitted under oath that she “of course” has used n*gger to describe black people. She also admitted she was planning a wedding in which black waitstaff were to dress as antebellum slaves.
Deen also admitted that Bubba would look at pornography on the computer in an office he shared with Jackson. Jackson left the job in 2010.
Food Network released the following statement:
“Food Network will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month.”
Deen released an apology via YouTube, but the damage had already been done:
